Although Application Streaming (a.k.a. Virtual Desktop Service) is relatively new, it’s where the world of computing is going. When the computing world first started off, we installed the programs on our desktops. We bought the CD, we installed it, we licensed it, we managed it, we maintained it, and we ran it. Then we went to a centralized terminal server. All computations were performed on an actual terminal server.
Today, more and more, and especially into the future, we’re using “Application Streaming” or Virtual Desktop. Here, the application is actually sent to the desktop as needed, when needed. When a program is needed, only the required components for the task are actually sent to the desktop. This greatly reduces the amount of resources required in the office.
